  • Fight Acne At Its Core

This is one of my best tips for acne, especially cystic acne: Gingerly Snapped’s Acne Spot Treatment!

Anyone who has tried this spot treatment can tell you that you can feel this “black stuff” working! The eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils deeply penetrate the pore and open it, allowing for the activated charcoal and bentonite clay to detoxify the oils, dirt, and puss (yuk!) that causes skin to clog and acne to form.

Even deep cystic acne can be treated with one application for fifteen minutes a day and a change can be seen in only a few days. As someone who suffers from cystic acne myself, this was truly my goal with this skin treatment.

  • Greens for your skin

My spring collection has been looking rather green so far thanks to my new all natural colorant, derived from a mix of chlorella and spirulina. Not only is this blend a brilliant, deep hue of emerald, but it’s also an ideal ingredient to benefit the skin!

Chlorella promotes collagen in skin, which helps restore skin’s natural elasticity and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It’s packed with vitamins and minerals that reduce skin inflammation and promote overall skin health, creating a lovely glow.

Spirulina is the perfect complement to chlorella, as it tones the skin for an anti-aging effect and prevents acne build up and inflammation creating a radiant appearance.

  • Benefits of Beeswax

Beeswax may seem like a little ingredient, one that is added to help a product keep its shape, but it actually goes a long way to add beneficial qualities to your skincare and even hair care products!

When applied to the skin, beeswax creates a lasting barrier that helps lock in moisture as well as promote skin regeneration. The natural anti-inflammatory properties of beeswax help soothe irritated skin, making it a great choice for products such as my lotion bars for those with dry, itchy skin.

Beeswax is also a good choice for hair care products, such as our beard balms, because it can provide the same moisturizing effects as it does for the skin. The same thin but mighty layer that helps add some much needed moisture will also help shape hair, lock it into place, and create shine while acquiring extra protection to prevent split ends. If all that wasn’t enough, beeswax even encourages hair growth!

Be sure to check out the other amazing ingredients in both our lotion bars and beard balms in our shop!

  • Make the switch!

Have you ever asked yourself why would anyone switch from store bought soap to artisan cold processed soap?

Store bought soaps have detergents and synthetic fragrances in them. These things can trigger allergies, cause irritation, and even strip the natural oils from your skin.

Cold process soaps, such as the artisan bars I make, have oils, butters, and glycerins that add moisture to the skin. Personally, I use only essential oils to scent all my products rather than fragrance oils to add even more benefits and reduce the chance of irritation for those with sensitive allergies.

  • The best tool to fight blemishes

If you struggle with blemishes, then this is the post for you…

A lot of Gingerly Snapped soaps have a dramatic swirl to them, and most can thank the black coloring of activated charcoal for that extra flair. However, activated charcoal isn’t only used in our products for its coloring. It’s also extremely beneficial for the skin!

Due to its porous nature, activated charcoal is very absorbent. It soaks up excess oil, dirt, toxins, and impurities leaving skin clean and fresh. By removing all the excess buildup from pores, it gives your skin a chance to heal and fight acne as well as giving the freshly cleaned pores to shrink back to their natural size.

When combined with essential oils such as eucalyptus and tea trees or other acne fighting ingredients such as bentonite clay, activated charcoal is one of the best tools to combat breakouts! See for yourself and try out Gingerly Snapped’s Acne Spot Treatment or our Tea Tree & Charcoal Clay Face Mask or even our Detoxifying Charcoal Face Soap!

  • Benefits of Shea Butter

Why does Gingerly Snapped have so many shea butter centered products?

As I've fallen deeper and deeper in love with the nurturing, healing powers of shea butter, it has slowly become the cornerstone of my supplies.

It is rich in many vitamins, including A, D, E, and K, and high in important fatty acids. These key components moisturize and soften the skin while nurturing it with anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties.

From your hair to your toes, shea butter can make a deep impact. Check out my lines of whipped body butters, lotion bars, shampoo bars, moisturizing beard balms, and dog shampoo bars, all containing a healthy dose of shea butter love!

  • Our Signature Recipe

One of the wonderful thing about exploring the soap world is the different recipes you encounter. Some people prefer recipes rich in shea butter while others may choose one with a lard base. Some people find a salt soap meets their needs while others choose a loofah soap for extra exfoliation. I offer a variety in my shop, but the most common you will see at Gingerly Snapped is a blend of olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil, and sunflower oil. Of all the hundreds of recipes out there, why did I choose these oils?

🧼 Olive oil is naturally cleansing while also moisturizing to the skin. It heals and renews the skin, helping to create a more youthful appearance.
🧼 Coconut oil is similar in its healing properties, and it also reduces inflammation and acts as an anti-bacterial. This oil is also very well known for its ability to add moisture to the skin.
🧼 Canola oil strengthens skin tissues and smooths it while also creating a protective barrier that prevents moisture from escaping.
🧼 Sunflower oil moisturizes and protects skin like the other oils, while also unclogging pores and soothing skin. This helps brighten and smooth skins texture.

  • What’s the tea?

Gingerly Snapped soaps are made with a wide variety of natural ingredients, often including teas. Although these teas can contribute to the smell, color, and texture of the soap, the reason for their use goes much deeper.

For starters, tea soaps contain antioxidants that help protect the skin and work to prevent further damage. Certain types of tea soaps, like those containing green tea, can also have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Meanwhile, those containing chamomile tea can help soothe and calm irritated skin. Another huge benefit to tea soaps is that they encourage collagen production, helping to smooth and brighten the skin’s surface.

Be sure to check out Gingerly Snapped’s numerous tea soaps, including Chamomile Oatmeal, Green Tea & Lemon, and Chai Time!

  • Keep coming for the kombucha!

Here’s something I wish I knew earlier: soap made with kombucha is AMAZING for the skin! Similar to how drinking kombucha is good for your gut health, kombucha soap is probiotic rich, anti-inflammatory, and stimulates the skin to release dead skin cells - leaving it feeling fresher and softer than ever. Other than being superb for your skin, kombucha soap has a natural earthy scent, rinses very well from the skin, and is very natural.

Don’t forget to check out Gingerly Snapped’s new Honey & Yogurt line of soaps, made with in-house brewed kombucha!

  • Soda Ash

Do you know about soda ash on soap?

As you look at some of the final photos of my soaps, or perhaps upon receiving your own bars, you may notice a white layer on the tops or even sides. In some cases it’s very thin but in the case of some of my face soaps, such as the brightening turmeric bars, it appears rather thick. This substance is known as soda ash and has no effect on the soaps quality.

Soda ash forms when the lye in cold process soaps react to cool air, among other reasons. I live and work in an old country home that tends to be too hot or too cold, which creates an environment that encouraged this little chemical reaction to occur on my products.

It is easy to see soda ash on soap and feel concerned that it may be mold, however I want to assure my customers that I take extra care with my soaps to ensure that they are of the highest quality. Cold processed soaps, very different from the melt-and-pour style, is created from a chemical reaction and heats up to extreme temperatures that would kill any mold risks in its ingredients.

  • Whip it good!

Do you know why Gingerly Snapped chooses to whip our body and face butters?

The texture that whipping body butters add allows for the heavy - and heavily moisturizing - butters and oils to be absorbed faster and easier into the skin. This means every time you use your whipped body butter, each use will go further and do more to repair and nourish your skin.

  • Bentonite Clay

Have you ever seen bentonite clay in the ingredient list for your skin care products and wondered “What the heck is this anyways?” You’d be surprised at how this light green powder can pack a big punch for your complexion!

If you struggle with any sort of blemishes, blackheads, or frustrating combination skin, then products enriched in bentonite clay may be the ones for you. The absorbent qualities of this clay can help cut down on oily skin while drawing out dirt and debris from pores, essentially detoxifying and shrinking them. Bentonite clay is also rich in calcium, which helps to retain skin’s moisture and leaves if looking and feeling refreshed.

You can find bentonite clay in a number of Gingerly Snapped’s products and it’s a favorite ingredient for our face care line. It plays a key role in our Acne Spot Treatment, is the main ingredient in our Rosemary Clay Mask, and enhances the plethora of benefits you can receive from our Brightening Turmeric Goat Milk Face Soap!

  • Peppermint Essential Oil

Gingerly Snapped’s large variety of products are made with essential oils rather than perfumes or artificial fragrances. This isn’t only because essential oils are friendlier to those with allergies (though that is a huge factor!) but also because most essential oils have beneficial properties. Although no one should replace their prescribed medications with essential oils, incorporating them into your daily routine with your skin care products can be a great boost towards meeting your body’s needs.

Let’s look at peppermint essential oil as an example. A personal favorite, this oil can benefit one mentally as well as physically. Peppermint essential oil is known to reduce stress and improve mental function. It’s also antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and a decongestant, making it an ideal choice for cold season and allergy season alike. When the scent of peppermint essential oil is inhaled, it can shrink swollen membranes in the nose and airways which make it easier to breathe.

  • The Lowdown on Lard

I’ve had many messages of customers unsure about buying a soap with lard in the ingredients, picturing a soap that will make their skin as greasy as the bacon fat it’s been rendered from. What most people don’t know is that lard is a phenomenal addition to the other oils and butters used in Gingerly Snapped soaps!

Lard provides some of the best moisture to the skin when added to soap, helping to ensure that the cleansing properties of the soap don’t also dry the skin out. While moisturizing the skin, these lard based soaps can help restore smoothness to skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Lard soaps are also known to help even out skin tone and reduce redness!

Although Gingerly Snapped tries to keep the majority of our soaps vegan friendly, we do have a selection of lard based soaps that we proudly make from in-house refined lard. You can find it in our Spring Collection with Rain Shower, our original soaps with Black Magic, and our newer soaps with The Huntress (just to name a few)!

  • Rosemary Essential Oil

Let’s continue exploring some of Gingerly Snapped’s favorite essential oils with rosemary! Rosemary essential oil can be found in many products from our face care line to our body soaps.

When used in skincare, rosemary essential oil provides both anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial benefits. This allows it to rejuvenate the skin while cleansing and protecting it.

Rosemary also provides benefits when used in your hair care too, such as Gingerly Snapped’s shampoo bars. Rosemary essential oil helps strengthen circulation and blood supply to hair follicles which in turn helps to stimulate hair growth. It also helps keeps the scalp cleaner and healthier between washes by reducing any irritation and fighting buildup.

Be sure to check out Gingerly Snapped’s wide variety of products containing rosemary, including our Rosemary Whipped Shea Face Butter, our Rosemary Mint Shampoo Bars, our Rosemary Mint Beard Balm, and our Renewal Soap.
